The main quality, conformity assessment and classification requirements for fertilisers labelled as "EC fertiliser" ("EG-Düngemittel" or respective names in other languages of EU member states), are set in the REGULATION (EC) No 2003/2003 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 13 October 2003 relating to fertilisers. Requirements for other fertilisers and their registration are set out in the national legislation of EU member states. In Latvia, there is a compulsory registration of fertilisers in the State Plant Protection Service, a mandatory requirement for self-control of fertilisers, as well as detailed requirements for identification, quality and labelling of fertilisers.
